This list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) has been put together to help you decide whether you want to use my services to help you with your new website. If your question isn’t answered, please contact me.
Pricing & Payment
Your prices are in £ (GBP). Does that mean you only work with customers in the UK?
It doesn’t matter whether you are in Manchester or Madrid, Birmingham or Bangkok; I can still set up your website for you. I quote prices in GBP because I’m registered in the UK for tax and insurance and most of my customers are from the UK.
How do I pay you?
I accept payment via PayPal or by direct bank transfer.
Do I have to pay all of the money upfront?
No. Once we’ve reached a mutual agreement to go ahead with your new website I will ask for a £50 deposit to begin the process. This deposit covers the registration of the domain name and hosting and allows me to begin work. I only ask for the balance of the payment when the website is finished and you are happy with it.
What do you mean by a 100% satisfaction guarantee?
I will carry out all of the work on your website myself. I don’t have a team of workers and I don’t outsource any of the jobs involved in producing a website. Because of this, I am confident enough to guarantee my work. If for any reason you aren’t happy with the end result, I’ll refund your deposit less the cost of the domain name which will already be registered to you.
Why should I use you and not a big design company?
There are advantages and disadvantages to using a big web design company so the choice is yours, but I offer a personal, professional service at very competitive rates and I also provide a no-risk 100% satisfaction guarantee.
Why are your rates lower than other web design companies?
I’m freelance and location-independent which is a fancy way of saying I have no big overheads and can work from just about anywhere with an internet connection. I don’t have a large advertising or marketing budget and I don’t have to pay staff wages. My prices are low, but that doesn’t mean I compromise on quality. My name is my reputation and I can’t afford to produce work that my clients aren’t happy with.
Design Process
Can you give me some advice on the best name to use for my website?
No problem. I’ll provide advice and tips, but the final choice will always be up to you.
Will I own the domain name of the website or will you?
You can either register the name yourself or I can do it on your behalf, but even if you use me I will register it in your name so you have total control.
Who will work on the design of my website?
Me. Nobody else. That’s why I am proud to provide my personal 100% satisfaction guarantee.
How long will it take you to complete my website?
I only accept one website project at a time and work usually takes around 7-10 days from the day you give me the go-ahead.
What is WordPress?
WordPress is a software program that helps people to build and maintain websites.
What do you mean by a Premium Theme?
A theme is what provides the look of your website. If you think of a website as a car, then WordPress is the engine. The theme is the exterior colour, the interior trim and all the other things that make your car look good and comfortable to drive. A standard theme does a reliable job, much like a Toyota or a Nissan but for more style, better looks and more luxurious fittings, a premium theme is like having a BMW or Jaguar.
What is SEO?
SEO stands for ‘search engine optimisation’. In a nutshell, it’s a combination of techniques and actions aimed at helping people to find your website when they search Google, Bing, Yahoo or any other search engine. It’s quite a big subject to cover, but I include an SEO service as standard with all the websites that I design.
We want a website, but we don’t want the hassle of updating it. Can you do the updates for us?
Of course. I do try to encourage clients to take care of their own website once they are up and running because it isn’t as difficult as many people think once they are shown. However, I also appreciate not everybody will have the time and inclination to do this so I offer a managed website service. This additional service starts from £10 per month.
Can you design a logo for us?
No. If you have an existing logo I can incorporate that into your new website, but if you need a logo developing I would advise seeking out a professional graphic designer.
We don’t want to use WordPress, we’d rather use Joomla or Drupal. Is that OK?
I only use WordPress on the sites I develop. This makes things easier and more efficient for me which means I can provide lower prices for you.
